Site Allocations and Development Policies Submission Documents

The Spatial Policy Team is responsible for the forward planning of the District and the monitoring of development. A key responsibility is for the preparation of a development plan comprising policies, land-use allocations and maps in order to guide development to the right places and avoid inappropriate development from taking place. This is the basis upon which planning applications are considered.
The current Local Plan, the Adopted Review Colchester Borough Local Plan (March 2004) provides a framework for the development of the Colchester Borough. It is saved until 2011, or until it is replaced in whole, or part, by the Local Development Framework (LDF) documents as they are produced. In December 2008 the Council adopted the Core Strategy document which provides the overarching strategy and policy direction for the growth of the Borough up to 2021.
The next documents to be produced for the LDF are the Development Policies and the Site Allocations Submission documents. Both of these are subject to a six week consultation period running from Friday 18 September 2009 until Friday 30 October 2009. Alongside the documents the Council has produced Proposals Maps for the Borough which can be viewed below both interactively using the Council's mapping software or as individual downloads.

Supporting Documents
The Council has used numerous supporting documents in the preparation of these Development Plan Documents. These have been split into National, Regional and Local documents and can be viewed by
clicking here.
In addition to this we will be holding 2 meetings to outline the proposals for each document. These are being held in the Town Hall on 8 October 2009 starting at 6pm and 22 October 2009 starting at 6pm in the Training Room, Rowan House, Sheepen Road.
